Our Story
Goniotape was born from a simple class project. Four occupational therapy students completing their Masters degrees, were tasked with inventing a tool that would improve the efficiency of occupational therapy services. Through reflection on clinical experiences, Sarah, Samantha, Antonia, and Cecilia questioned if they could improve OT service delivery to orthopedic patients. These patients often have strict movement-based precautions post operation and the four students commiserated over repetitively educating patients on said precautions. For various reasons, their patients couldn’t remember them and unintentionally put themselves in danger of reinjury. The result of countless brainstorming sessions, initially just for a class project, produced Goniotape. A device that measures movements, collects data, and communicates with the wearer to prevent injury and improve independence.
